BS”D In the name of Heaven, we will do and we will succeed.  Here is a roundup of our latest updates to My Sloper for March 2017.

Reorganization

We have reorganized the layout to all our products within the My Sloper family to provide better and clearer navigation and viewing.  Some of these changes effectively increased the performance of My Sloper.  Here is a sample of what you will see in My Sloper Blouse version 3.2.

My Sloper Blouse Organization

We structured common data in an easier viewing mode.  The Profile, Ease and Seam Allowance areas are bundled together at the top.  The Sleeve Settings are bundled by itself on a horizontal region.  The Blouse Settings are bundled together in its own horizontal region.  The Draw button is given a contrasting color next to the Print Style section for easier finding.  This new layout is supported in My Sloper Dress, Skirt, Jacket, Maternity, Sleeve, Headwear and Neckwear as well.

My Sloper Neckwear

We added 4 new collar styles to My Sloper Neckwear: Cape Collar, Square Collar, Sailor Collar and Diamond Collar.  They all share similar properties: Roll Factor and Shoulder Pad Consideration, similar to a Flat Collar.

My Sloper Neckwear 3-2

My Sloper Neckwear is the only product that comes with a Dickey design that you can easily make to pair with your favorite tops and dresses that are lacking a modest neckline.  Choose from 19+ collar varieties to enhance your modest wardrobe any time of the year.

Download the DEMO of any or all of My Sloper Products today.  They don’t expire and the only feature missing is the ability to print.  Get a short-term or long-term license to activate printing.  Download the latest version at any time to be used with a valid active license.   Get the most affordable modest pattern generator software today.  Happy Sewing!

In the name of Heaven, we will do and we will succeed. KosherPatterns.com is pleased to announce the new structure of My Sloper products. There are currently 8 products in My Sloper family: My Sloper Blouse, My Sloper Skirt, My Sloper Dress, My Sloper Maternity, My Sloper Jacket, My Sloper Sleeve, My Sloper Neckwear and My Sloper Headwear. For each of these products, you can now rent My Sloper on demand.  Rent it for 1 month or longer, whenever you need it.

When you download a My Sloper product, you will be able to operate My Sloper in its default Demo mode. All features are enabled in Demo mode except for PDF printing. You can test-drive every feature and design to your heart’s content, including loading an XML profile and decide whether you want to go ahead and invest to print those patterns you have designed.

Each product will require a product registration key to activate the full-version. We offer three types of product keys:

  • 1 month Personal Edition, only at US $30
  • 1 year Personal Edition, only at US $99
  • 1 year Home Business Edition, only at US $199

The difference between the Personal and Home Business editions is whether you want to sell garments sewn from patterns generated by the software.  The latter is ideal for a home-based commercial dressmaker who thrives in a cottage industry.  For those of us hobbyist dressmakers, we might be happy with just a Personal Edition of My Sloper.  The 1 month Personal edition is ideal for sewing up a storm before a big holiday or event.  The 1 year edition is ideal for sewing throughout the year in a tight budget.

The Demo versions of all products will be updated throughout the year.  You can check back at any time to see if there are any new patterns and features and download a copy, then decide if you want to invest in printing the patterns.

We love Firefox!  It has been the most stable Internet Browser in terms of consistency and reliability.  That’s why we have committed My  Sloper to run only on Firefox to get the most accurate and consistent rendering of our patterns.  My Sloper has built-in checks to warn you if it is activated on a different browser.

So, go ahead and download My Sloper today.  It should be the most affordable Pattern Maker software for all kinds of budgets with modesty in mind.  With this new distribution structure, we don’t have to deal with the headache of price upgrades from one version to the next.  We appreciate our clients and we want to make it simple for all for us.  Just rent the latest version for as short or long as you like and enjoy rebuilding your modest wardrobe for your entire family!

BS”D With gratitude to G-d, the Creator of the World, KosherPatterns.com is pleased to announce the release of My Sloper Maternity Version 3.0, the only pattern making software for modest maternity apparel.

Modest Maternity At Its Best

In addition to meeting the needs of the average modesty-conscious consumers, KosherPatterns.com has not forgotten about the population of expectant mothers who cherish and value modesty in their child-bearing years.  We are releasing today our premier edition of My Sloper Maternity Version 3.0, by offering a full and demo version in our online store.  This is good news for those who sew for modest maternity needs.

What makes My Sloper Maternity unique?

  • When a regular apparel is worn on expectant women, one will notice that the front hemline will lift up and be uneven with the back hemline. Even though uneven hemlines seem to be a fashion statement these days,  modest consumers regard the ready-to-wear hi-lo hemlines as anything but immodest.  My Sloper Maternity’s design provides an even front and back hem length.  Thus, we ensure a modest coverage for the modest expectant mother.

maternitydesign1

  •  My Sloper Maternity accepts Pre-Maternity Sizing.  One just needs to reuse the sizing before maternity and let the software do its magic.  XML Profiles save a lot of time.

my-sloper-maternity-08

  • With its default ease measurements, one can design a comfortable maternity garment that fits the expectant mother throughout her pregnancy. One has to simply adjust the Maternity waist-to-hip depth accordingly to accommodate tummy growth as the pregnancy progresses.

Maternity Waist to Hip Depth

  • My Sloper Maternity 3.0 offers three garment lengths: hip, mid-calf and ankle.  Remember to adjust the pattern grid columns and rows when you need more pattern viewing space.

my-sloper-maternity-05

  • My Sloper Maternity 3.0 offers 9 basic maternity styles that can mix and match with 10 sleeve hem styles, 5 garment openings, and 15 collar styles.  If you do the math, you will get a combination of 6,750 variations of maternity garments!!!

Are you looking to add sleeves to your sleeveless tops and dresses? Do you find drafting a sleeve pattern challenging? Does sewing a Set-in sleeve just as daunting? Does the extra ease on the sleeve cap pose another challenge to sewing a smooth pucker-less sleeve? If the answer to all the questions are a resounding Yes, please read on to learn more about My Sloper Sleeve.

Design Sleeve Pattern

Bodice blocks come in various fit and styles.  Fitted bodice blocks and industrial bodice blocks may be designed with the front bodice either wider or narrower than the back bodice at the chest line. Looser fitting bodice blocks are generally designed to be symmetric in both front and back because of the extra chest ease that provides wearing comfort and modesty.  Some bodice blocks are designed to have a forward shoulder line, which means the front bodice armscye length is shorter on than the back bodice armscye length.

Here are a few of the sample bodice blocks without seam allowance that are generated from a commercial pattern making software.

Fitted Bodice Blocks with Symmetric Sleeve Block

Fitted Bodice Blocks with Symmetric Sleeve Block for Women

Notice the varying front and back armscye lengths for the bodice and the symmetric sleeve block.  When we add up the dimensions, the sleeve generates a 5.3-cm ease at the sleeve cap.  This type of sleeve requires a Set-In Sleeve sewing technique.

Simple Bodice Blocks with Symmetric Sleeve Block

Simple Dartless Bodice Block with Symmetric Sleeve Block

Simple Dartless Bodice Block with Symmetric Sleeve Block

These blocks are similar in nature to the Fitted Bodice Blocks above except that the bodice blocks do not come with bust and waist darts.  With a 5.3-cm ease at the sleeve cap, the symmetric sleeve will also require a Set-In Sleeve sewing technique.

Industrial Fitted Bodice Blocks with Asymmetric Sleeve Block

Industrial Bodice and Sleeve Blocks for Women

Industrial Bodice and Sleeve Blocks for Women

These industrial blocks are designed to be narrower on the front bodice and wider on the back bodice at the chest line. The asymmetric sleeve block produces a 0.8-cm ease at the front sleeve cap and a 4.2-cm ease at the back sleeve cap.  This type of sleeve also requires a Set-In Sleeve sewing technique.

Flat Bodice Blocks with Symmetric Sleeve Block

Child's Flat Bodice Blocks with Symmetric Sleeve Block

Child’s Flat Bodice Blocks with Symmetric Sleeve Block

These blocks are designed for children.  Note that symmetric bodice armscye lengths as well as the symmetric sleeve.  Even then, the 4.0-cm ease at the sleeve cap will require the Set-In Sleeve sewing technique.

Men's Bodice Blocks with Symmetric Sleeve Block

Men’s Bodice Blocks with Symmetric Sleeve Block

These blocks are designed for a man’s measurement.  Like the child’s block, the symmetric sleeve will require a Set-In Sleeve sewing technique due to the relatively small but noticeable 2.9-cm ease at the sleeve cap.

Set-In Sleeve Sewing Technique

This technique for sewing a sleeve requires a lot of patience and time and mastery in order to overcome the challenges of producing a smooth pucker-less sleeve cap at the shoulder and armscye.  What if there is a better way to produce smooth pucker-less sleeve caps, by reducing the ease at the sleeve cap?

My Sloper Sleeve

My Sloper Sleeve comes to the rescue.  Over the past few years, KosherPatterns.com has been producing the My Sloper series pattern-making software for the modesty-conscious consumer.  Our goal is to design sleeves that are easy to sew by eliminating the ease at the sleeve cap. Our earlier designs have been successful in eliminating this extra ease, however, they have required a little bit of tweaking at the sleeve cap in order to produce a smooth sleeve cap design that’s pleasing to the eye.  Recently, with gratitude to G-d, we have improved our design to remove this extra “tweaking.”  This tweaking is now done automatically by the software without the need for manual intervention by the consumer.  We are very  pleased to announce My Sloper Sleeve 3.0, a lightweight, portable, standalone Web application that runs on Firefox for the best delivery.

My Sloper Sleeve 3.0

My Sloper Sleeve 3.0

My Sloper Sleeve 3.0 supports 13 sleeve hem styles from the basic full sleeve to sleeve with cuffs.  There are 3 turnback cuff styles, 3 buttoned cuff styles, 2 elastic cased styles, 1 gathered hem with band cuff and these additional cuffs: flair, frill and tulip.

5 Critical Pieces of Data

5 Critical Sleeve Data

We need 5 pieces of critical data for My Sloper Sleeve 3.0.  The first two, the Overarm length to create a full-length sleeve and the Bicep Girth are needed from the subject.  The third, the Bicep Ease, is needed for a comfortable wearing ease.  6-8 cm is recommended for comfort and modesty.  The last two are obtainable from the front and back Bodice blocks.  Measure the armscye length from a quarter Bodice block for the front and back.

My Sloper Sleeve 3.0 Advantages

Use My Sloper Sleeve 3.0 to:

  1. Add sleeves to a sleeveless pattern.
  2. Replace an existing sleeve pattern with a No-Ease Sleeve Cap pattern from My Sloper Sleeve.  With zero sleeve cap ease, sewing sleeves will be a delight again.
  3. Replace a short sleeve pattern with a full-length sleeve pattern from My Sloper Sleeve.
  4. Add variation to the basic sleeve pattern from the free My Sloper Blouse Demo and My Sloper Dress Demo.

How to Sew a No-Ease Sleeve

Use the flat construction method to attach the no-ease sleeve to our bodice.

Part 1. Attach Sleeve Cap to Bodice Armhole

Flat Construction Method

  1. Firstly, sew the front and back bodices at the shoulder line.
  2. With the bodices on the bottom and the sleeve on top, right sides facing, match the sleeve cap notches to the bodice armhole notches.  The middle notch of the sleeve cap should match the shoulder line.
  3. Start sewing from one end of the sleeve cap to the first notch.
  4. Beyond this notch, sew slowly and carefully to the second middle notch located at the top of the sleeve cap where it matches the shoulder.
  5. Then, sew pass this second notch to the third notch.
  6. Continue sewing from third notch to the end of sleeve cap.

Between the first and third notches,  we may notice ripples on the sleeve curve while we sew and this is normal.  We are trying to match a convex (outward) sleeve curve to a concave (inward) armhole curve.  What we have to watch out for is that the bottom bodice fabric remains flat at the entire time when we sew between the notches.  In our experience, any pucker that may appear is not on the sleeve cap, but on the bodice armhole itself.  So, remember to flatten the bottom bodice fabric when we sew between the notches.

Part 2. Sew Sleeve and Bodice Side Seams

Flat Method Construction Continuation

  1. Turn the bodices and sleeve with their wrong sides facing us.
  2. Fold sleeve in half right sides facing and match the front and back bodices right sides facing.
  3. Starting from the sleeve hem, stitch along the sleeve side seam towards the armhole and continue along the bodice side seams until the bodice hem.

We are pleased to announce the release of My Sloper Dress 2.0, with new dress patterns and sleeve hem styling and other new goodies.

Modest Dress Patterns

With the addition of 3 new dress patterns that focus on paneling and 3 new gathered tiers patterns, My Sloper Blouse 2.0 offers at least 20 ways of enhancing your modest wardrobe. These new back-zipped styles require minimal configuration, just click on the pattern, add enough flair at the hips, and print. Let’s get started with the new styles.

3 new Panel Aline Styles – A, B, C

Panel A-line Dress Style A

This style offers a front and back neck yoke, a middle panel and option to add flounce along the yoke seam line. The flounce pattern can be generated in the Trims Tab as there are so many different ways of designing a flounce. We leave it up to your creativity! However, we offer you some guidance on the measurements for the flounce when you select and draw the back and front dress patterns.

Panel A-line Dress Style A

Panel A-line Dress Style A

Use the Computed Front & Back Yoke length (see blue highlight) to design your flounce length. Cut 2 of this flounce pattern for the blouse, one on each side.

Panel A-line Dress Style C

This style has panel lines starting from mid-shoulder to the hem. It is similar to a Princess-line style, but designed for a modest A-line silhouette. Flounces can be added along the top front and/or back of the panel line. Use the guide below to help you with the flounce length.

Panel A-line Dress Style C

Panel A-line Dress Style C

The front and back panel trim lengths are merely a guide; you can make the flounce length shorter or longer.

modest tznius tzniut dress

Panel A-line Blouse Style B

This style’s panel line runs from the middle of the front/back neck towards the hem line. It has lots of options for flounce styling. See some samples from My Sloper Blouse 2.0 for a few options. Use well-blended fabric prints and colors for modesty. Avoid color-blocking that focuses on attention-seeking bold, contrasting loud color schemes.

Panel A-line Dress Style B

Panel A-line Dress Style B

Guidance for the flounce length is given from these computed front and back neck measurements.

The panel line runs from the middle of the front neck to the hem. If you want to add flounce to the front middle panel, take half of the computed front neck measurement for your flounce length. If you want to add flounce to the neckline that stops at the front and back panel, take (half of computed back neck measurement + half of computed front neck measurement) for your flounce length. That’s all there is to it.

Dress with Gathered Tiers Skirt

My Sloper Dress 2.0 has 3 new variations for tiers with gathers.  Most gathered tiers utilize a lot of fabric rectangles, but My Sloper Dress 2.0’s gathered tiers skirt pattern are all A-line based and will save you a lot of fabric.  These gathered tiers style apply to empire, natural and drop waistlines.

Sleeve Hem Styles

Like my Sloper Blouse 2.0, My Sloper Dress 2.0 also has an addition of 4 new sleeve hem styles: Elastic Cased Hem, Elastic Case Frill, Flair Cuff and Frill Cuff.

Sleeve Tab

The Sleeve Tab has been eliminated from My Sloper Dress 2.0. Everything you need to style the sleeve hem is in the Dress Tab. In addition, we added a check-box to help you tweak the sleeve cap.

My Sloper Blouse 2.0 Screen 05

Check this box to enable messages to increase or decrease the Sleeve Notch Control value.

You don’t need to follow these message guidelines if the sleeve cap looks smooth to you. The message will disappear if the sleeve notch control value is satisfied. My Sloper Dress 2.0 uses complicated math to guide you to produce the smoothest sleeve cap possible, but sometimes it will alternate between increasing and decreasing the sleeve notch control value and will not settle down. In that case, you can ignore the message and uncheck the box to disable the message. This applies to a case-by-case basis. In general, it is recommended to leave the message display and follow its guideline.

Dress Tab

Here is the look of the new Dress Tab.

We have updated the Dress Demo software to Version 2.0 as well.  It has minimal features enabled along with bug fixes for the basic dress sloper.  If you have downloaded the 1.9 version in the past, you might want to check out the 2.0 version.

Previously named My Sloper Collar, My Sloper Neckwear 2.0 includes 3 new collar designs and a Dickey module as well.  With My Sloper Neckwear 2.0, a home business specializing in making modest clothing for women and girls can add a line of dickeys with a variety of 15 collar designs to its repertoire.

Let’s go through the different modules supported by My Sloper Neckwear 2.0.

Draft Neckline Module

If you remember the history of My Sloper, you will remember that KosherPatterns ® offered the ability to draft necklines of any size freely on its Web-version.  This is how My Sloper began.  The drafting of necklines is based on our unique technique of drafting a natural neckline.

Draft Neckline

Draft Neckline

Draft Neck Facing Module

Drafting neck facings is an extension of drafting necklines, and we offered this in My Sloper as the next feature.  Neck facings are needed for collarless garments and are essential for completing such a garment.

We have expanded our collar collection from 12 to 15.

New Collars

New Collars

We can basically classify our collars into these groups below.

Shirt Collars

Traditional Full-Roll Collar

Traditional Full-Roll Collar

The Traditional Full-Roll Collar is a simple yet essential collar to enhance a modest garment. Originally designed for men’s shirts, this style provides additional coverage for the neck.  It can be implemented with or without a collar stand.  What’s special about this collar is that it hugs the neck nicely.

Convertible Collar

Convertible Collar

Previously known in My Sloper Collar as Convertible Collar Style A, this collar has been renamed simply as the Convertible Collar.  A cousin of the Traditional Full-Roll Collar, this collar has a curved bottom edge to fit the curved neckline much better.

Sport Collar Style A

Sport Collar Style A

Previously known as the Convertible Collar Style B, this collar has been renamed the Sport Collar Style A.  A significant feature of this collar is that it is designed to provide ventilation at the back of the neck and hence, the Sport Collar does not hug the neck totally.  As its name suggests, this collar is ideal for sporting activities.  This collar is also designed to have a wider front than the back.

Previously known as the Convertible Collar Style C, this collar has been renamed the Sport Collar Style B, a variant of the Sport Collar Style A.  It differs than Style A in that the front collar maintains the same width as the back collar.

Peter Pan Collars

Peter Pan Flat Collar

Peter Pan Flat Collar

The Peter Pan Flat Collar is a classic flat collar with the option to “roll” and the option to have a pointed or rounded front corner.  Even the roundness is configurable!  When the collar roll increases, you will find the gap between the front collars widening.

Feminine Full-Roll Collar

The Feminine Full-Roll Collar, as its name suggests, is the opposite of the Shirt Collar in that it hugs the neckline in a soft and feminine kind of way.  If you notice any of the Shirt Collar styles above, you will be able to spot the shape of the collar at its top resembling the letter ‘V’, whereas you will find a collar in this category maintaining a rounded shape at its top. This style can be configured to have a pointed or rounded front corner.

Feminine Semi-Roll Collar

The Feminine Semi-Roll Collar is a variant of the Feminine Full-Roll Collar that offers less than a full roll.  You also have the option to configure this collar’s front corner to be either pointed or rounded.

Cowl Collars

Cowl Collar

The Cowl Collar is a very flattering feminine collar that provides soft flowing drapes around the neckline. It has been one of the most popular collar styles besides the Peter Pan collar variety.  This collar is ideal for soft knit fabric, with or without textures.  See in the gallery below for more ideas for this collar.

Jabot Collars

Pleated Jabot Collar

The Pleated Jabot Collar resembles a Square Collar but it is more flair in the front than the back;  its center front has an inverted box-pleat. You may configure its front collar width to be bigger than its back collar width.  This collar can be sewn in either knit or woven fabrics.

Frill & Tie Collars

Frill Collar

The Frill Collar is a Victorian-style collar that is lovable in this generation as well.  Designed with a buttoned collar stand in mind, the Frill Collar has the option to configure the width of its frill as well as its stand.

Bow and Frill Collar

The Bow & Frill Collar has a long tie-able ribbon bow as its closing. You can configure the width of the collar stand, the width and length of the bow.

Tie Collar

The Tie Collar is a collar plus imitation men’s tie in one.  This collar gives you the option to configure the width of its collar stand and tie.  You may need to learn how to tie a tie.

Draft Dickey Module

Draft Dickey

Draft Dickey

The Dickey Module supports two neckline styles: Jewel and Cowl. In addition, these opening style are supported: Back Zipper, Front Zipper, Front Add-on Button-stand, and Front Separate Button-stand.  You can configure the length and width of the dickey.  This dickey design has been used widely by commercial dickeys sold exclusively on ModestAnytime.com.  You may read client testimonials as a vote of confidence.  My Sloper Neckwear 2.0 is a great investment for a home business wishing to specialize in custom made dickeys with its variety of collar choices.

The popularity of modest hair coverings among women of all faiths has seen an increase in the past decade.  There are many reasons besides faith that dictates the wearing of hair coverings.  Some wear for undesirable medical conditions while others wear as a fashion statement.  My Sloper Headwear 2.0 by KosherPatterns ® is a positive outcome based on the book “The Joy of Tznius Pattern Book Volume II – Designing the Extensible Cap” and the implementation of this book as real products sold at ModestAnytime.com for the past two years.

Nine Extensible Styles

Multi-panel Fitted Cap

Multi-panel Fitted Cap

The Multi-Panel Fitted Cap is ideal for a night sleep cap or as an inner cap for a hat or scarf. Made with a choice between 2 to 8 panels on the crown and a front headband, the end-user can make this pattern using stretchy knit fabric.

Sewing this style is fairly easy.  Simply sew all the panels together and join them with the headband.  Use different color fabrics for the panels and headband or lightweight solid color as a lining for wearing under a scarf or hat.

The Beret Look

The Beret Look

The Extended-Panel Cap gives the appearance of a “Beret” with its overhanging panel.  Works best with stretchy knit fabrics, this style is easy to put on and off.  You may secure the inside with a hair comb.

Two-Band Snood Beret

Two-Band Snood Beret

The Two-Band Snood Beret is a cap that looks like a Snood as well as a Beret.  By adding a middle band, this style takes on a different look with its panels moving back and overhang a little more. Using contrasting fabric for the middle band adds variety to the otherwise plain cap.  Use a ribbed knit for the front headband for extra comfort.

Extended Panel Two-Band Snood Beret

Extended Panel Two-Band Snood Beret

The Extended-Panel Two-Band Snood Beret makes this style more of a Snood fitting for women with longer hair.  For more formal occasions, decorate the middle band with your favorite trimmings made out of lace, crochet, pearls, beads, ribbons, etc.  Use textured fabrics for either the panels and/or middle band for special occasions.

Hybrid Snood Beret

Hybrid Snood Beret

The Hybrid Snood Beret is actually designed for summer wear with a non-stretchy lightweight woven material for the panels and stretchy knit material for the middle and front bands.  In My Sloper Software, this style is called “Non-stretchy Panel Two-Band Snood Beret.”  This style, like the one before, is very versatile as it can be worn with a bun or without, producing a different look for each.

The Pleated Band Moriya Snood

The Pleated Band Moriya Snood

The Pleated Band Moriya Snood is a style that’s marketed at ModestAnytime.com in the early fall of 2015. It produces a very neat and formal 20’s look with a sliding rhinestone buckle.  The front headband actually has a 14-inch tie that wraps around the front and secured with a slider. The middle band has 3 rows of pleats that when sewn crosswise with opposing directions produce 3-dimentionsal textured-waves.

Inline Piping Moriya Snood

Inline Piping Moriya Snood

The Inline Piping Moriya Snood is an alternative to the pleated middle band of the previous style.  Instead of three rows of pleats, you can design for 2 or 3 rows of piping of 2 thicknesses – 1/4-in (6.4-mm) or 1/2-in (12.7-mm).  Adding piping details also produces a 3-dimensional texture and height to its overall appearance.

Inline Piping Mloriya Snood with Ties

Inline Piping Mloriya Snood with Ties

The Inline Piping Moriya Snood with Ties has a front headband that doesn’t wrap around but is tied at the back or side.  This style is a popular alternative to wrapping one’s hair with a large fabric or scarf as its application requires minimal effort and time.   This style can be made with or without an inner lining.  If the outer fabric is a mesh or eyelet that is sheer, line it with a lightweight breathable cotton knit.  Lining will also add extra warmth in the winter and you can wear your snood outside!

Seamed Piping Moriya Snood with Ties

Seamed Piping Moriya Snood with Ties

The Seamed Piping Moriya Snood with Ties has two encased pipings at the seam between the panels and the middle band, and the seam between the middle and front headband.  Use soft cotton piping material instead of those enforced with cross threads for a less stiff look that better shapes the crown of the head.
